Nigeria 65: Time to build, not just celebrate – Edo DG Idahosa

From Tony Osauzo, Benin

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon Dennis Idahosa, has congratulated Nigerians on the nation’s 65th independence anniversary, urging citizens to see the celebration as both a symbol of freedom and a call to duty.

In his independence message signed by his press secretary, Friday Aghedo, the deputy governor described 1 October as a reminder of the courage, sacrifices, and vision of Nigeria’s founding fathers who laid the foundation for a united and prosperous nation.

He noted that despite the challenges the country has faced over the decades, Nigerians have continued to show resilience, creativity, and determination, qualities, he said, that must be harnessed to build a stronger nation.

“Independence anniversary is not only a celebration of our freedom as a people but also a call to duty. It is a reminder that the task of building a greater Nigeria lies with all of us. Let us remain committed to peace, justice, and the collective good of our nation,” Idahosa said.

He commended the Edo people for their steadfast support for Governor Monday Okpebholo’s vision of inclusive growth and pledged the administration’s continued commitment to improving the quality of life for citizens through people-centred policies and programmes.

The deputy governor prayed for God’s blessings for the country and urged Nigerians to reflect on the journey so far and renew their dedication to patriotism, integrity, and service to humanity.
