Nigeria, China mark Youth Skills Day with push for AI, digital empowerment

In celebration of World Youth Skills Day (WYSD) 2025, the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP) is pushing for stronger Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital skills development initiatives.

The push underscores the cooperation between Nigeria and China and highlights a shared vision for a digitally inclusive and innovation-driven future.

With the global theme, “Youth Empowerment Through AI and Digital Skills,” NCSP is leveraging its bilateral framework with China to launch targeted training and capacity-building programmes aimed at enhancing the employability, entrepreneurial capacity, and digital inclusion of Nigerian youth.

Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, Director General of NCSP, emphasized the significance of the initiative in a rapidly evolving global economy.

“When we empower our youth with relevant digital skills, we do more than reduce unemployment; we build a more resilient economy,” Tegbe said. “At NCSP, we are committed to building partnerships that translate into real opportunities, especially in the AI and digital sectors where the future of work lies.”

He stressed that Nigerian youth, when equipped with the right tools and platforms, are a transformative force for national growth. His remarks align with the United Nations’ 2014 declaration of WYSD, which promotes education, technical training, and innovation as key drivers of inclusive and sustainable development.

Tegbe also highlighted the pivotal role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in closing the digital divide, especially for underserved communities. He noted that the NCSP’s expanding collaborations with Chinese tech firms, innovation hubs, and academic institutions are laying the groundwork for the emergence of a digitally skilled generation ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

“We are aligning policy with practice, bringing together government institutions, private sector players, and international partners to create a pipeline of skilled talent for today and tomorrow,” he stated.

As Nigeria and China continue to broaden their diplomatic and economic relations, the NCSP stands firm in its mission to ensure both countries reap mutual benefits—particularly by empowering Nigeria’s youth to become leaders in innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.

This year’s World Youth Skills Day observance is more than symbolic; it serves as a powerful call to action—to invest in young people, foster strategic global partnerships, and chart a path toward a digitally competitive and inclusive Nigeria.
