Nigeria Governors’ Forum Declines Comment on Rivers State Emergency

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has chosen not to comment on the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Dr. Abdulateef Shittu, the NGF’s Director General, stated that the forum’s hands are tied and emphasized the NGF’s role as a non-partisan body focused on policy matters rather than political disputes.

He highlighted that the NGF aims to promote unified policy positions and collaborate with stakeholders for socio-economic growth and public well-being.

Shittu also noted that taking positions on contentious partisan issues could alienate members with varying political interests, referencing past divisions within the forum due to political differences.

He called for public understanding, expressing confidence that appropriate platforms and crisis management mechanisms would address such issues.
