The youth wing of the ASPAMDA Traders’ Association turned out in their numbers force to celebrate the re‑election of Dr Innocent Nnamene as President of the Plowass Association (PLOWASS), filling the air with the rhythmic sounds of Ogene and Igba ndi eze, a traditional Igbo music symbolising pride and unity.
The event, held at the ASPAMDA complex, showcased not only the strong bond within the association but also the transparency of the electoral process. Although the Commissioner of Police was unavoidably absent, the Area Commander, Area E, attended alongside senior ASPAMDA board members, key stakeholders and prominent business leaders. These dignitaries praised the election as “free, fair and exemplary,” holding it up as a model for Nigeria to emulate.
Dr Nnamene’s landslide victory came as no surprise. His first four‑year tenure was marked by major infrastructural projects and initiatives that enhanced traders’ welfare and repositioned PLOWASS as a benchmark for excellence within the Lagos market. Stakeholders described his re‑election as a “vote of confidence” in his visionary leadership, swift execution and commitment to the association’s development.
Among his achievements was the commissioning of a state‑of‑the‑art complex that has become a hub for both local and international trade, supported by improved road access to facilitate logistics and boost productivity. He also prioritised security by acquiring a dedicated patrol van, installing 24‑hour surveillance system and employing trained security personnel.
On sanitation, Dr Nnamene oversaw the construction of a hygienic public toilet facility and established a refuse dump site with regular waste evacuation. In healthcare, he initiated the development of an on‑site medical clinic to provide traders with emergency care. In addition, he launched a PLOWASS database website to improve transparency, enhance communication and enable business networking among members. The platform now serves as a central portal for registered businesses, official announcements and security updates.
With these achievements, stakeholders expressed optimism that Dr Nnamene’s second tenure will consolidate existing progress and deliver new innovations to further expand PLOWASS’s influence and set new standards of excellence for traders’ associations across Nigeria.
