From Okwe Obi, Abuja
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has revealed plans to commence a two-week campaign on security, national symbols, disaster preparedness, and policies of the Federal Government.
NOA Director General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, at a press briefing yesterday in Abuja, said the sensitisation would be taken across the 774 local government areas.
He said: “This is not just another campaign—it is a coordinated national awakening that touches the very heart of our identity, safety, values, and development.

“The National Orientation Agency, in line with its constitutional mandate, is rolling out five thematic campaigns designed to address some of the most pressing issues in our communities today.
“Nigeria stands at a defining moment. Our democracy thrives only when citizens are informed and actively engaged. Our communities are safer when citizens are alert and cooperative.
“Our youth flourish when guided by the right values. Our heritage endures when we uphold our symbols and identity.
“Our lives and livelihoods are preserved when we prepare ahead of natural disasters.
“Yet, across the country, recent surveys and field reports have shown gaps in awareness, harmful practices, and misinformation that threaten our unity, safety, and progress.”
He added: “The five thematic campaigns include: National Enlightenment on Government Policies, Programmes, and Activities. We will bring accurate, accessible information on key government initiatives—from the Student Loan Scheme to infrastructure, social investment, and job creation—to the doorsteps of every Nigerian;
“Flood Mitigation and Disaster Preparedness. With NiMet projections showing high flood risks in 27 states, we are mobilising communities to act now: clear drains, relocate when advised, and comply with early warnings. Preparedness is cheaper than recovery;
“Security is everybody’s business. Through community dialogues, media engagement, and grassroots outreach, we will promote vigilance, encourage timely reporting, and build trust between citizens and security agencies;
“National Values Reorientation for Students Against Extreme Sign-Out Practices. Graduation should be a moment of pride, not danger. We are working with schools, parents, and student leaders to promote safe, value-based celebrations that uphold discipline, dignity, and patriotism;
“Our flag, our anthem, our pledge—these unite us beyond tribe or tongue. We will revive respect for our national symbols, integrate civic education in schools, and inspire pride in our shared heritage.”
Speaking on the scope and execution of the exercise, he said: “Over the next two weeks, press conferences will be held in all 36 states + FCT. Grassroots outreach will take place in markets, schools, motor parks, religious institutions, and community halls in all 774 LGAs.
“IEC materials in English and major Nigerian languages will be distributed. Radio, TV, and social media campaigns will run daily to reach Nigerians wherever they are.
“Feedback channels—including toll-free lines and social media platforms—will be open for citizen engagement.”
