The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced investigations into the derailment of a Kaduna-bound train from Abuja, which occurred on Tuesday morning.
In a statement released shortly after the incident, the Bureau confirmed that a team of investigators had already been dispatched to the crash site to unravel the root cause of the derailment and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.
According to the NSIB, the probe will focus not only on the immediate factors that triggered the accident but also on systemic and underlying issues that may have contributed to it.

Commenting on the incident, the Director General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., expressed sympathy with the injured passengers.
“We deeply sympathise with all who sustained injuries,” he said. “The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is aware of the derailment involving a Kaduna-bound train service which occurred at approximately 11:09 A.M. today, 26th August 2025, at KM 49 between Kubwa Station and Asham Station.”
Captain Badeh Jr. disclosed that six persons were injured in the accident, though no fatalities were recorded. He added that a “go-team” had been deployed to the site to secure evidence, interview stakeholders, and begin a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances leading to the derailment.
The Bureau reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of Nigeria’s rail system through thorough, transparent, and independent investigations.
“The NSIB will provide updates as the investigation progresses,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Bureau assured passengers and the general public that its findings would guide safety recommendations designed to strengthen rail transport operations and restore public confidence in the Abuja-Kaduna corridor, a major passenger route in the country.
