Obi, Labour Party mourn Buhari

From Idu Jude Abuja

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has mourned the passing of former president Muhammadu Buhari, describing his death as one that provides a solemn moment, not just for his family and close associates, but for our nation as a whole.

Obi, in a thread on his official X handle, also lamented that while alive, Buhari “has always comported himself in a dignified manner as a leader.”

Recall, the former president died on Sunday in a clinic in London (UK).

Obi’s X thread reads in part, “I have just received the very sad news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari in London.

“To his wife, children, extended family, and to all Nigerians I extend my deepest condolences.

May Almighty Allah, Most Gracious and Most Merciful, forgive President Buhari’s shortcomings, reward his efforts in service to the nation, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.”

Meanwhile, the acting national chairman of the LP, Senator Nenadi Usman, said the deceased former Nigerian leader gave his best to the country.

Usman’s remarks made available to newsmen on Sunday read, “Both as a military Head of State and as a democratically elected President, the late Buhari served the nation to the best of his capacity. Like every human, he had his shortcomings, but his unwavering love for Nigeria – evident in many of the decisions he took both as a military officer and as a statesman – remains undeniable.”

It continued, “It is with deep sorrow that I received the news of the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who reportedly died in a London hospital.

“As the nation mourns this departed patriot, I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and consoles all who grieve this profound loss.

On behalf of the entire Labour Party family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, associates, and the Nigerian people.”
