As part of the ongoing 69th-anniversary celebrations of the Nigerian Navy, the Dolphin Golf Club in Navy Town, Lagos, hosted a golf tournament where the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, emphasized the importance of wellness, sportsmanship, and unity within the service.
Promoting Wellness and Camaraderie
The golf tournament featured 71 registered golfers, including 64 men and 7 women. Participants showcased their skills and strategy across the 18-hole course, fostering camaraderie and healthy competition.
In his keynote address, Vice Admiral Ogalla described the tournament as more than just a recreational activity. He highlighted its role in building bridges between the military and civilian communities. According to him, golf reflects values such as patience, strategy, precision, integrity, and composure under pressure.
A Week of Celebrations
The tournament was just one of several activities planned for the Nigerian Navy’s 69th-anniversary celebrations. These events took place from May 23 to June 1, 2025, in Lagos and other locations, commemorating the establishment of the Nigerian Navy on June 1, 1956, while showcasing its achievements and contributions to national security.
Other key events included interdenominational church services, medical outreaches, sailing competitions, and the commissioning of new ships and helicopters. These activities underscore the Navy’s commitment to service, unity, and excellence.
Through events like the golf tournament, the Nigerian Navy aims to promote not only physical wellness but also the values of sportsmanship and teamwork that are essential to its mission.
