Following a stakeholders and opinion leaders meeting last weekend at Okagwe, the Ohafia community in Abia State, has constituted a 13-man caretaker committee to revive the fast fading Ohafia Improvement Union (OIU), which is the developmental arm of the community.
In a communiqué released after the meeting, which took place at the residence of Chief Umeh Kalu, SAN, Chief Fab Uche, was appointed the Interim President General of the Union, with Uma Ntima, as the secretary.
Other members are: Dr. Emmanuel Udo Ukpai (representing Diaspora OIU branches), Vincent Ukpong Kalu, Cliff Obia, Prince Ikpo Odo Okereke (OIU president, PH), Chief Kalu Idika Okwara (OIU president, Abuja) and Chief Brown Aki (OIU president, Uyo).
The rest are: Chief Chikezie Ukaha, (OIU president, Umuahia), Chief Emmanuel K. Ukeju (OIU president, Lagos), Chief Dr. Agwu K. Ukairo (OIU president, Enugu), Dr. Otum Okereke (OIU president, Aba) and Chief Emeka Mba (PG, Ebem Ohafia Development Union).
In his maiden address to the community, entitled “Ohafia: On Way To Greatness Again,” the interim President General, expressed appreciation to Ohafia stakeholders and opinion leaders drawn from across the globe, as well as to all those who have supported this noble cause.
He noted that his emergence was mostly due to non-performance and lack of foresight of the leadership of the past administration of the Union, and affirmed his commitments to upholding and rebuilding upon the enviable legacy that the forefathers left for the community. The role of a leader, he said, is not one to be taken lightly. It is a responsibility that requires vision, empathy, and unwavering dedication, and pledged to give his best to this position and to serve with integrity and transparency.
According to him, “our team is not merely a collection of individuals; it is a community bound by a shared purpose and a common goal. Together, we have the power to drive change, inspire others, and make a lasting impact.”
