From Taiwo Oluwadare, Ibadan

Former Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, and outgoing Federal Character Commission (FCC) Commissioner, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, has officially handed over the baton to his successor, Prince Ayodeji Abass Alesinloye, describing him as a “seasoned and sound administrator” worthy of the role.

Olowofela, who also once served as Chairman of Ido Local Government, was appointed to the FCC in 2020 by President Muhammadu Buhari after the nomination of the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi. Following Senate clearance, he was sworn in on July 2, 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. His five-year tenure ends on July 1, 2025.

In a personal statement on Tuesday, Olowofela described appointment of Abass Alesinloye as worthy representative.

While reassuring, Olowofela said : “I have known Alesh since our days in the Local Government Administration Era in 2011. Without any equivocation or doubt, he is a seasoned and sound administrator. Naturally, I had hoped for a second term, but being succeeded by him is comforting. Congratulations, Alexy, I wish you the best in your new assignment”.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday appointed Prince Alesinloye, a former chairman of Oluyole Local Government and ex-Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Oyo State, as the new FCC Commissioner representing Oyo State. Alesinloye is also the current Deputy President of NALGON Emeritus and a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

A statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed Alesinloye’s appointment alongside other new commissioners and the reappointment of several serving members. Notably, Dr. Muheeba Dankaka was reappointed for a second five-year term as Executive Chairman of the FCC, with Mohammed Musa named as the new Commission Secretary.

The Federal Character Commission is tasked with ensuring the equitable distribution of public service appointments and fostering national unity through fairness and inclusion across Nigeria’s federating units.
