- Rules out ADC, says it’s APC, PDP in Osun
From Lateef Dada, Osogbo
Former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Senator Babajide Omoworare, has notified the All Progressives Congress (APC) of his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election, promising to return the state to the progressive government.
The former senator who was once the majority leader of Lagos State House of Assembly when President Bola Tinubu was the governor, boasted that he has won all the elections he contested in five times.
He noted that the 2026 governorship election is between the APC and PDP, saying “In Osun, there are two parties. A third person can try. You can go to SDP, you can go to Accord, you can go to ADC and try. In Osun, it’s APC and PDP for now.”
Omoworare who represented Osun East in the 7th and 8th Senate, stormed the APC secretariat Osogbo, with hundreds of his supporters, assuring that he was capable to lead the state.
He noted that he has observed the lapses in the state, particularly, lack of concentration to agriculture, assuring that good governance would be returned to the state.
“Osun has the highest food inflation in the region because rural roads are bad. Farmers can’t move their produce. I will fix that. We need a new era of governance.
“I am a progressive to the core. My great-grandfather was Afenifere. My maternal grandfather, the Ooni of Ife was the first governor of the Western Region. This is in my blood.”
While reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, Omoworare added that he would willingly step down if asked by party elders – but not without first making a strong case for why he believes he’s the right candidate.
“I will not be bitter if asked to step down. But before that, I must say why I’m running. I want to serve and I want to win,” Omoworare said.
The APC Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, described the party governorship aspirant as an astute politician and core progressive, promising that the party will provide a level playing ground for all the aspirants.
He urged Omoworare and other co-contestants to maintain peaceful consistence among the party members, urging them to work towards of achieving the goal of taking over power in 2026.
