Osun CP visits warring communities, warns against resurgence of hostilities

The Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, has warned the people of Ifon-Osun, Erin-Osun and Ilobu against resurgence of hostilities in their communities.

Addressing residents of the communities during an on-the-spot assessment of the situation yesterday, the CP urged residents of the communities to sustain the peace that has returned to the areas.

The communities had been at loggerheads over unresolved border dispute, a development that has led to fracas which led to loss of many lives and properties that worth billions of naira.

The CP commended the residents of the communities for their cooperation with security operatives as he called for permanent solution to the imbroglio.

”I’m here to assess the situation and to have first hand information from all the parties involved. I will advise the government to take rational decision towards finding a lasting solution to this crisis.

“Since my assumption in office, I’ve heard of the past bitter experiences which all of you are aware of and I want to assure you that my administration is an administration that brings peace. I want to ensure that peace is restored to all parts of Osun state, which this great kingdom is part of.

“There will be no development without peace. So, I want to urge you to see yourselves as brothers, as descendants of Oduduwa.

“We are all brothers and sisters. During my regime, I don’t want the repetition of what happened before. Let’s forgive and forget and join our hands in making Nigeria better.

“Let’s forget about what happened, let’s embrace peace, I am only here to see my members I post here to encourage them to do their best and give service to this Kingdom. We are here for peace and I urge you to put in your best and ensure that there is no cruise again in this period.

“I know there are bad ones amongst us that are happy when there is a crisis, so they can loot people’s property, The policemen cannot do it alone, you have to give them information about the bad people that are causing all these,” Gotan said.

The Olufon of Ifon-Osun, Oba Peter Akinyooye, commended the state police commissioner for deeming it fit to do spot assessment on his community.

He assured the CP of their readiness to support the security agencies and government for lasting solutions to the matter.

The President of Erin-Osun Progressive Union, Chief Kayode Olawale, who spoke on behalf of Elerin of Erin-Osun, Oba Yusuf Kolawole Omoloye Oyagbodun II, pledged adequate cooperation with the committee set up by the government.

“To maintain peace, we have urged our youths not to take laws in their own hands even several horrendous events and happenings,” Olawale said.

Similarly, the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, also commended the CP, and urged him to address indiscriminate arrest of members of the community over frivolous petitions.
