Two years after his inauguration, Cross River State Governor Senator Bassey Otu has launched the remodelled governor’s office in Calabar.
The building was constructed over five decades ago by the then-military administration of Brigadier General Udoakaha Jacob Esuene.
It had over the years fallen into major disrepair, and upon his inauguration, Governor Otu undertook a comprehensive renovation of the facility, which also houses the office of the deputy governor.

Speaking while formally inaugurating the building, the governor said this building stands as a signpost for Cross River, noting that after eight years, he would leave and support the next person who would take over.
“With the austere finances we are using to deliver these projects, nobody would believe that finance is meagre.
“We looked at building a new governor’s office but looked at its impact on the society and decided to renovate, remodel, and turn this place around to a smart office that matches the 21st century,” he said.
He added that the whole essence was for service and it’s consistent with his policy of restoring to excellence what the state already has on ground.
Emmanuel Ironbar, Chief of Staff to the Governor, said the governor’s office had been standing for several years and needed to be remodelled and renovated to fit into the present realities.
He asserted that the governor’s transformative approach to governance was a welcome development and the state was proud and lucky with the present administration.
Edem Bassey, Special Adviser to the Governor on Governor’s Office, said the governor’s office had been left dilapidated by previous administrations in the state; renovating it is a morale booster for every resident of the state.
Governor Otu also used the opportunity to inaugurate the remodelled office of the wife of the governor in commemoration of his two years in office.
