There is outrage in Bayelsa State, following reports that the Police have allegedly released a key suspect, Kadi Bae, a 200L student of Social Science involved in the viral assault and stripping of a 19-year-old girl, Ifedi Nancy, a small business owner from Imo State.
Nancy’s assault had sparked condemnation on social media, with several people demanding justice and prosecution of those who assaulted her.

In a petition to the Bayelsa state Commissioner of Police, Nancy narrated how she was lured, assaulted, stripped naked, and humiliated by a group of four girls, while one of them filmed the attack, which was intentionally released on social media.
Speaking in a Facebook live interview after submitting her petition at the Bayelsa State Police Headquarters, Nancy explained that she was set up by her friends under the pretext of picking up her clothes.
She said, “I came to see my friend because of her signing out at Federal University Otuoke on August 29, 2025. I stayed behind with my friend Becky at Edepie School Road. We were having a little issue, I had to leave her house to my friend’s house, Charity, at AMS.
“They called me to say that I should come and pick up my clothes from the dry cleaner and that the clothes are ready. Getting to the place, they locked the door and started questioning me. They first took away my phone, questioned me, and even before I could say a word, they started hitting me with hard objects,” Nancy said.
According to her, the attackers, identified as Becky, Blessing, Favour, and Miracle, assaulted her while one of them recorded the video.
“Miracle was the one videoing, Becky was the one pulling off my clothes, Kadi was the one cutting my hair with a knife, threatening to stab me if I said a word. She was even the one who blew my eyes,” Nancy recounted.
Meanwhile, governor’s wife, Mrs Gloria Diri, yesterday, took custody of Miss Nancy Wilfred and offered her a scholarship to university level.
This move follows the recent assault meted out to her by some female students of the Federal University, Otuoke, in Bayelsa State, now at large.
While interacting with the victim, Nancy Wilfred, her friend, and members of the Gender Response Initiative Team (GRIT)in Government House, Yenagoa, Diri described the incident as very barbaric and unfortunate.
She, however, assured Nancy of her safety and protection as enshrined in Nigeria’s Constitution, particularly the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act, 2021 of Bayelsa State.
Diri emphasized that no sane Society will tolerate lawlessness, stressing that there is no hiding place for the perpetrators of crime.
“I am very unhappy with this happening as a mother; it is difficult to comprehend that Nancy has been living life all by herself for years before this bizarre incident.
‘’Nancy will be admitted to the Hospital immediately for a Comprehensive Medical Examination.
I have also spoken with the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, Francis Idu, and he has assured me that the suspects will be apprehended,” she said.
