Complex surgeries were however conducted at a nearby hospital in Uzuakoli.

Speaking, the Programme Manager of the foundation, Joe Otu said the initiative targets between 2,500 and 3,000 patients, with over 1,200 already attended to by the third day.

“We have carried out more than 50 surgeries within two days, including eye operations and general surgical procedures.”

He explained that common cases include hypertension, malnutrition among children, and dental and eye problems were treated.

“This effort complements the government’s work. Our aim is to ensure that people in underserved areas can access healthcare without financial constraints,” Otu added.

He disclosed that the outreach was conducted in partnership with Pro Health International among others and was part of a wider programme that has already reached states including Cross River, Imo, and Osun this year.

“After Abia, the foundation will extend its services to Kaduna and Gombe before concluding its 2025 outreach calendar.”

Pastor Alex Imude, head of the evangelical team of the foundation, explained that the outreach gives both medical and spiritual support to people.

“Every morning begins with prayers, praise, and counseling, after which beneficiaries are directed to medical units. This initiative fulfills the vision of our founder, Mr. Thomas Etuh, who promised his late wife, Jennifer, to provide healthcare across Nigeria,” he said.

Cervical cancer screening according to him, remains a major focus of the Foundation’s hospitals, given the founder’s personal experience.

The foundation which was established in memory of the late Mrs. Jennifer Amatu Etuh who died of cervical cancer, has built six hospitals across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones and continues to provide free medical interventions annually.
