The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) has secured the conviction of Mr. Wahab Nasiru Olabanji, a senior civil servant, for defrauding job seekers by collecting money from them under the pretense of offering employment in state agencies.
Olabanji, who held the position of Chief Executive Officer (Accounts) on Grade Level 14 at the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, was found guilty of exploiting his position to extort funds from unsuspecting applicants. He was accused of receiving various sums from individuals applying for jobs at the State Hospital Management Board and the State Teaching Service Commission.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Chairman of OYACA, Hon. Justice Eni Esan (rtd), the former official was convicted on a 30-count charge of official corruption, obtaining money under false pretenses, and conversion of funds.
According to the statement, the verdict was delivered on Friday, August 1, 2025, after a rigorous 17-month trial. The court found Olabanji guilty on all 30 counts and sentenced him to six months imprisonment on each count, with an option of ₦50,000 fine per charge.
In addition to the custodial sentence and fines, the court ordered the convict to refund all the monies fraudulently collected from his victims within three months.
Justice Esan emphasized that the ruling represents a critical win in the fight against corruption in the Oyo State public service. She reiterated OYACA’s commitment to pursuing all forms of corrupt practices in the state’s civil and public institutions.
“This conviction sends a strong warning to all public servants that Oyo State will not tolerate corruption in any form. The Agency remains resolute in ensuring transparency and accountability in government operations,” she said.
