Paying the tribute to the bereaved family, loved ones and the Uhiele community, in a statement on September 3, Dr. Imuse and Ihenyen, said: “It is with profound sadness that we bid farewell to a remarkable individual, who left an indelible mark on our lives and the community. Pa Ekpenwele A. Osewele, the venerable Odionwele of Uhiele, has gone to meet his maker at the ripe age of 102. As we mourn his passing, we take comfort in the extraordinary life he lived, the wisdom he shared and the legacy he left behind.”

They said Pa Ekpenwele’s life was a testament to purpose, dedication and service, adding that he grew up to become a pillar of strength for his family, community and beyond and left an enduring impact on those around him.

“As the Odionwele of Uhiele, he embodied the values of leadership, wisdom and compassion. He was a guardian of tradition, a promoter of unity and a source of guidance for generations. His counsel was sought by many, and his words carried weight, borne out of a deep understanding of the world and its complexities.

“Pa Ekpenwele’s life was a treasure trove of experiences, anecdotes and wisdom. He lived through times of great change, adapting to the shifting tides of history while remaining rooted in his values and principles. His insights into life, humanity and the world around us were profound, often conveyed through stories, proverbs and aphorisms that captivated his audience.

“His wisdom was not limited to his family or community; it was shared with all who sought his counsel. His door was always open to those in need of guidance, comfort or simply a listening ear. He was a beacon of hope in challenging times, offering solace and reassurance to those who sought his help,” the duo said in a statement.

They noted that one of his most enduring legacies is the emphasis he placed on family, community and unity.

“He was a strong advocate for the importance of relationships, mutual respect and understanding. Through his example, he showed us that true strength lies not in individual achievements alone but in the bonds we forge with others.

“Under his leadership, the Uhiele community flourished, becoming a symbol of peace, harmony and cooperation. His vision for a united and prosperous community inspired many to work towards a common goal, fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose.”

Besides, Dr. Imuse and Ihenyen stated that, “Pa Ekpenwele’s remarkable longevity is a testament to his resilience, faith and the love he shared with those around him. Living over 102 years, he experienced the best and worst times, yet his spirit remained unbroken. His life serves as a reminder that age is not just a number but a badge of honour, earned through a lifetime of service, love and dedication.
