Pastor Allegedly Defiles Four-Year-Old in Anambra

A 56-year-old pastor, Emeka Mkama, has allegedly defiled a four-year-old minor in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident, which occurred on December 24, 2024, only became public on Monday after being reported to the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, and the Chairman of Idemili North LGA, Chief Stanley Nkwoka.

Sources reveal that the case remained undisclosed until a staff member at Model Primary Health Centre, Obosi, informed the Supervisor of Health in Idemili North, prompting official action. The suspect, a pastor at Jesus Build the Church Mission in Obosi and a native of Ebonyi State, was reportedly detained last month.

A family member of the victim, speaking anonymously, disclosed that the child had been unwell since the incident, with the family initially opting for herbal treatment instead of reporting to authorities. However, as the child’s condition worsened, the mother sought medical help, ultimately leading to the revelation of the alleged abuse.

Concerns have arisen that the pastor, who has been in detention, might be released if legal action is not swiftly taken.

Reacting to the case, Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra State governor, has stepped in to ensure justice is served. According to a statement from her media aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, Mrs. Soludo has directed a thorough legal response and immediate medical attention for the child.

She has also mandated the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, to take up the case, emphasizing the need to exhaust all legal measures against the alleged perpetrator.

Condemning the “culture of silence” surrounding sexual crimes, Mrs. Soludo reiterated that the fight against domestic and sexual violence can only succeed when victims and witnesses speak up.
