PDP Postpones NEC Meeting Again, Reschedules for May 15

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its National Executive Committee meeting for the fifth time and has rescheduled it for May 15, 2025. The meeting was originally set for March 13, but according to PDP National Secretary Sunday Ude-Okoye, it was delayed due to pending zonal, state, local government, and ward congresses, as well as the need for further consultations.

This is the fifth postponement of the 99th NEC meeting, which has deepened internal divisions within the party. The crisis intensified after Umar Damagum took over as acting National Chairman following the court’s removal of Senator Iyorchia Ayu. Since the 98th NEC meeting on April 18, 2024, many issues have remained unresolved, causing significant disagreements among party leaders.

Originally, the 99th NEC meeting was planned for August 15, 2024, then postponed to October 24, 2024, and later to November 28, 2024, before being delayed indefinitely. The PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, had urged that the meeting be held by February 2025. Despite their push and further proposals from the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders, the party has now set a new date for May 15, 2025.

In a statement, party leaders explained that the delay was necessary to conclude pending congresses and allow for further consultations regarding other party activities. They apologized for any inconvenience caused by the change and asked all NEC members to update their schedules accordingly.
