On Wednesday, the DSS arraigned nine prime suspects linked to the killings at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Also charged was a suspected gunrunner nabbed with seven M16 rifles.
The defendants include Haruna Adamu and Muhammad Abdullahi, both from Awe LGA in Nasarawa State, Terkende Ashuwa and Amos Alede, both from Guma LGA of Benue State, Halima Haliru Umar from Faskari LGA, Katsina State, Silas Iduh Oloche of Agatu LGA in Benue, Nanbol Tali and Timnan Manjo, both natives of Plateau State, and Danjuma Antu from Jos North LGA of Plateau State.
Commending Tinubu and the DSS, Adeyanju said, “ This is a welcome step that gives hope to the affected communities that justice will be done and that the lost lives will not be forgotten.
“I believe this moment also serves an opportunity to call for the protection of Nigerians who are killed daily by bandits all over the country and also speed up the process of either releasing innocent people in custody of security agencies or charge those with a case to answer to court speedily.”
According to him, citizens cannot continue to spend years in custody without charge.
He added that a reformed process that ensures timely investigation and prosecution would reinforce the credibility of the justice system and restore the public’s confidence in the nation’s institutions.
Adeyanju said, “Too often, people are held in detention for long periods without being charged, and their families go through needless suffering.
“Justice delayed in this way affects both the innocent and the justice system itself.”
