A retired Colonel in the Nigerian Army, Dr. Gbenga Adegbola, has joined the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His gubernatorial aspiration was publicised during a strategic visit to security formations and political stakeholders in Ibadan, the state capital, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
He told journalists after the visit: “It is time we address the issue of equity and justice. Other zones have had their turns; Oke-Ogun is long overdue. This demand is not about division, it’s about fairness and giving every part of the state a sense of belonging.”
Adegbola, who holds postgraduate degrees in Security, Strategy, and Conflict Management, added: “I have made my intention known during my visit to our party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
“If entrusted with the mandate, I will prioritise security and economic development. As someone with deep roots in strategic security planning, I understand what it takes to maintain law and order.
“Governance must build on existing gains and take it a notch higher. A secure state attracts investment. If Oyo is safe, both local and international investors will come. This is one of the pillars of my plan.”
