Benin coach, Gernot Rohr has admitted that he is looking forward to qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup even though his team sits second in Group C of the qualifiers, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Leopards have been one of the surprise packages in the World Cup Qualifiers, as they sit second in the group, three points above third-place Nigeria and three points behind leaders South Africa.
With just two games left in the series, Benin has a good shot at nicking an unprecedented ticket to the United States of America, but also need South Africa to drop points too.

However, despite the difficulty of the task, coach Rohr is optimistic that his team has a good chance and will give it their all when they play the last game of the qualifiers next month.
“There are two games left and anything is still possible. With 14 points now, we have the chance to finish first in the group, but also to be among the best runners-up,” Rohr said after Benin’s 4-0 bashing of Lesotho on Tuesday.
“We absolutely must continue on this path. The team has become balanced, it no longer concedes goals. It fights together.
“We remain hopeful without falling into excessive optimism. We know it will be difficult. We know Rwanda; we have already beaten Nigeria here. So yes, anything is possible,” the Franco-German added.
The Leopards have two more games against Rwanda and Nigeria’s Super Eagles next month.
Gernot Rohr is no stranger to qualifying for the FIFA World Cup. He took Nigeria to the 2018 edition in Russia, but they were knocked out in the group stage.
Rohr is the last coach to qualify the Super Eagles for the World Cup.
