From Idu Jude, Abuja
Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Stephen Abraham Ajiya, has welcomed the latest decision made by the party during its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, with an emphasis that he has been vindicated of his earlier stands.
Recall that Hon. Ajiya, during an exclusive interview with the Sun, had said that any Northener vying for the office of President of Nigeria in 2027 is an enemy to the zone.
Ajiya, in an exclusive Interview with The Sun, reiterated the need for the Party to bounce back in control of the leadership it lost to the APC in the 2015 presidential election.
“I have said it time without number and right now I can say that this is a step towards reclaiming our lost position in Nigeria’s political space.
“During my last interview, my position was that any northerner who goes against the southern presidential candidate in 2027 is anti-North, and that was because the calculation is to give the South their 8 years while the power returns to the North”.
“The rotational presidency was what the party enshrined 20 years back, and such remains the best for a heterogeneous nation like Nigeria to make a headway politically. This would help build political ideology and history for our children. So I think the decision to maintain that transition is the best.
On the southern candidate to be PDP’s 2027 flag bearer, Hon. Ajiya said that for President Goodluck Jonathan, he remains the best candidate and choice of the North as he would not seek another tenure after four years.
“We in the North know that Jonathan remains the best option because he wouldn’t ask for another tenure, having spent four years before he was defeated by General Buhari in the 2015 presidential election. Again Jonathan is an experienced, tried and tested. He doesn’t need much introduction because he has been there from his time as the President to the late President Umar Ya’Adua. He became the president later on. So we are happy hearing the news. And with this decision, I have been vindicated because many fellow Northerners had called after my earlier position on this matter”.
He however, appealed to party faithful to eschew negative things capable of taking the party back to its years of suffering with a record of failures.
