The Federation of Sokoto State Students Association (FOSOSSA) has lauded Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto for his transformative impact on education in the state, describing his two-year tenure as a “beacon of hope” for students and youth.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Sokoto, FOSOSSA leadership highlighted the governor’s exceptional commitment to student welfare and educational development, calling his approach both practical and student-centered.

FOSOSSA President, Comrade Yusuf Sabi’u, expressed deep appreciation for what he called Governor Aliyu’s “dynamic and compassionate leadership,” stating that Sokoto students have never felt more seen, supported, and empowered.
One of the most notable milestones, according to FOSOSSA, was the payment of over ₦3 billion in outstanding tuition and registration fees for Sokoto students in various Nigerian universities and tertiary institutions, a move that relieved financial pressure on thousands of families and allowed students to continue their education without disruption.
Equally commendable, the student body said, was the prompt payment of tuition fees for Sokoto students studying abroad, including those in India, Sudan, and those relocated from war-torn Ukraine. They described the gesture as a timely lifeline that restored hope and dignity to Sokoto’s international scholars.
“This singular intervention saved many students from being expelled and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to global academic competitiveness,” Comrade Sabi’u said.
Beyond tuition payments, the group also praised Governor Aliyu for wide-ranging infrastructural investments in the education sector, including the renovation of schools, restoration of electricity to campuses, rehabilitation of hostels, purchase of books and ICT equipment, and the construction of modern sanitation facilities.
The association emphasized that these efforts have created a more conducive learning environment across the state’s tertiary institutions, especially in rural areas that had long suffered neglect.
FOSOSSA further acknowledged the governor’s inclusiveness and accessibility, noting that student leaders are now actively engaged in decision-making processes and receive timely responses to their needs.
As Governor Aliyu marks his second year in office, FOSOSSA used the occasion to urge other Nigerian governors to replicate his student-focused policies and youth empowerment initiatives. The group reaffirmed its full support for his administration and pledged continued collaboration toward academic growth and societal development.
“We say congratulations to His Excellency on this purposeful journey,” Comrade Sabi’u concluded. “May Almighty Allah continue to guide and strengthen him as he leads us forward.”
