Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, popularly known as “Sommie” to her colleagues and family, was a shining star in Nigerian journalism whose life was tragically taken on the 29th of September 2025.
She was 29 years of age and will be remembered for her impact on the field of journalism.
Here are key facts about her remarkable yet brief journey:
1. She was born on December 26, 1995 and hailed from Nigeria.
She pursued a strong academic foundation in law and qualified as a lawyer early in her career. Despite being a lawyer, her passion for media and storytelling could not go unnoticed.
2. Maduagwu was not just a journalist, a model, a writer, and a producer.
She joined the ARISE News Channel as an anchor, reporter, and producer in Abuja, where she specialised in covering legal/judicial, political, and social impact stories that connected deeply with the public.

Her voice was deeply cherished by the Nigerian media due to her ability to connect with viewers through thoughtful reporting, which made her a standout figure in the Field.

5. She was killed in the early hours of September 29, 2025, during a violent armed robbery attack at her residence in the Katampe district of Abuja, Nigeria.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police Force.
