Sowore: Protesters storm force headquarters, demand activist’s release

Protesters stormed the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday, demanding the release of detained activist Omoyele Sowore.

The demonstrators, most of whom were dressed in black, were seen with the national flag while chanting anti-government songs.

They accused an unnamed Assistant Commissioner of Police of intimidation, denying claims that they barricaded the road.

Speaking with members of the press, one of the protesters said, “We are exercising our fundamental constitutional rights. We did not block any road; an Assistant Commissioner of Police is here to intimidate us. He came alongside a dog to attack us.

“We are here within the ambit of the law, let it be on record.”

Omoyele Sowore arrived at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, on Wednesday after he was invited  over alleged “forgery and inciting disturbance.”

He was reportedly detained the next day, with members of the public calling for his release.
