A 200-level Chemical Engineering student from the Federal University, Otuoke, reportedly drowned in the Ekoli Creek, Yenagoa, after attempting to swim across the river over a N300 bet. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday morning, but the victim’s body has yet to be recovered.
Sources revealed that the student had placed a bet with his coursemates and attempted the swim but went underwater and never resurfaced. Efforts to reach the university’s Public Relations Officer for confirmation were unsuccessful.
Bayelsa State Police spokesman, Mr. Musa Mohammed, stated that he had not been briefed on the incident but promised to provide updates when available.
