Suspected herders attack Benue community again, kill two

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen militia have attacked Mgbaan village in Guma Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, killing two persons.

Our correspondent also learnt that the marauders tortured a woman whom they attempted to kidnap, but she fortunately escaped.

Mgbaan village is situated between Daudu and Yelwata settlements, along the Makurdi-Lafia highway, in Nyiev Council Ward of Guma LGA.

A source from the community, who did not want to be named, told newsmen in Makurdi on Sunday that the attack took place in the early hours of Sunday, August 3, 2025.

According to the source, the Chairman of Guma LGA and Benue ALGON Chairman, Hon. Maurice Orwough, visited the scene of the incident.

The two victims were identified as Terkimbir Iorhen Igbawua and Mlumun Igbawua.

Orwough, who rushed to the scene, urged security operatives to enforce full operations.

He also took the tortured woman, who regained freedom from her abductors, to the hospital for medical treatment.

The council chairman directed the Local Government Security Secretary to release funds for the burial of the victims, slated for Monday, August 4, 2025.

The chairman, who reiterated his promise to prioritise the security and safety of the people, assured them that, in no distant time, the crisis would be a thing of the past.

Orwough was accompanied to the scene by the Council Chairman of Ukum, Hon. Jonathan Modi; Council Chairman of Buruku, Hon. Raymond Zege; and PSA to the Benue Governor on Protocol and Wardrobe, Hon. Emmanuel Iorbee.
