Tinubu and I have made peace, we’re working together – Fubara

From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, has affirmed that peace has been restored between him and President Bola Tinubu following their first meeting after the lifting of his’s suspension on September 17th.

He met with the president at the Presidential Villa on Monday night, September 22, 2025, signaling a renewed working relationship aimed at moving Rivers State forward.

Governor Fubara, who resumed office on September 19 after the six-month state of emergency in Rivers State was lifted, described the meeting as a cordial “father-son discussion.” He expressed gratitude to the president and sought guidance to avoid future crises in the state’s governance.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Fubara said, “It’s proper for me to see Mr. President and to tell him that I’m back, and I’ve also resumed my responsibility as the Governor of Rivers State. It’s not much. It’s a father-son discussion, telling him thank you and the areas where, if at all, there should be any issue for him to guide me properly so we don’t be in any situation of crisis. That’s all.”

When asked whether the peace between them was genuine or fragile, the governor was unequivocal: “As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together. Thank you.”

This development follows President Tinubu’s historic decision to lift the State of Emergency in Rivers State, which had suspended the governor and his team and created political uncertainty for six months. The president’s directive to allow Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to resume duty has since restored normal governance in the state.
