President Bola Tinubu has nominated 39-year-old Engr Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Ramat, an electrical engineer and administrator, holds a PhD in Strategic Management, among other qualifications.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu has also nominated two candidates for commissioner roles at NERC: Mr Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.
All nominations are subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate. To prevent a leadership gap in the critical regulatory agency, the President has directed that Ramat assume office in an acting capacity pending his Senate screening, as required by the Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005.
President Tinubu urged the appointees to leverage their expertise and dedication to advance the administration’s vision for the power sector. “I expect the new leadership to work assiduously to propel Nigeria’s power sector forward,” the President stated.
