According to a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in addition, President Tinubu stressed the need for the swift implementation of pension increases that have been long overdue, along with a minimum pension guarantee. These measures are designed to offer a financial safety net for the most vulnerable retirees.
The instructions came after a briefing from Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Omolola Oloworaran, who also presented updates on ongoing efforts to preserve the value of pension fund assets in the face of inflation and economic challenges.
Expressing concern for security personnel, President Tinubu mandated Oloworaran to urgently address the longstanding police pension issue, affirming that those who serve the nation deserve to retire with dignity and peace of mind. “Our men and women in uniform who protect this nation deserve to retire with dignity and peace of mind,” the President said.
Oloworaran also briefed the President on plans to enable Nigerians in the diaspora to participate in the pension scheme through the introduction of foreign currency contributions, aiming to broaden the scheme’s reach and inclusiveness.
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to inclusive growth and protection for ordinary Nigerians, President Tinubu voiced strong support for the wide-ranging pension reforms currently underway.
“Our goal is to ensure that every retiree enjoys the fruits of their labor with dignity and security,” he stated.
This directive marks a significant step in the government’s broader plan to enhance the welfare and financial security of retirees across Nigeria.
