Tinubu recalls NTA DG, ED of News; sets aside new appointments

From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

In a surprising reversal amid recent management changes, President Bola Tinubu has directed the recall of Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

Dembos, who was appointed to the role by President Tinubu in October 2023, had briefly vacated the position following new appointments.

Similarly, President Tinubu has recalled Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News, directing him to complete his current tenure, which runs through 2027. Adewuyi was appointed by the President in 2024.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, this new directive effectively nullifies the previously announced appointments of a new director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises.

The fresh appointments, approved by the President just weeks earlier, had included Rotimi Pedro as DG and Stella Din as Executive Director of News, among others.
