President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will confer national honours on selected federal lawmakers on June 12, 2025, to mark Nigeria’s Democracy Day. The ceremony will take place at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja during a special joint session organized by the Senate and House of Representatives.
Commemorating 26 Years of Democracy
This event celebrates Nigeria’s 26th year of uninterrupted democratic rule. The theme is “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.” It highlights the National Assembly’s crucial role in safeguarding democracy and promoting national progress.
Akin Rotimi, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, confirmed the event in a statement. He noted that this joint sitting represents a significant moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey and emphasizes the National Assembly’s commitment to accountability and development.

The special joint session will start at 11:00 AM in the House of Representatives Chamber. President Tinubu is expected to arrive at noon to deliver a presidential address as the Special Guest of Honour. The program will also feature goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly.
