The Super Falcons of Nigeria asserted their dominance on the African football scene by clinching their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title on Saturday in Rabat, Morocco.

The Super Falcons clinched their 10th WAFCON title, tagged Mission X by Nigerians, on Saturday by defeating Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final.
The victory extended their record as the most successful team in the tournament’s history, with no other nation coming close to their dominance.
They have now won 10 out of the 15 WAFCON editions, securing titles in 1994, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018.

Nigeria have maintained an impeccable 100 per cent win rate in WAFCON finals, winning all 10 finals they have contested.
This unmatched record underscores the Super Falcons’ ability to perform under pressure in decisive matches, with Saturday’s comeback against Morocco being a prime example of the team’s clutch performance.
First women’s team globally to win 10 continental titles
With Saturday’s victory, the Super Falcons became the first women’s national team in the world to win a continental championship 10 times, surpassing the United States (9 CONCACAF titles) and China (9 AFC titles).

First team to win the redesigned WAFCON trophy
The 2024 WAFCON introduced a newly designed trophy, symbolising the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s commitment to elevating women’s football.
The Super Falcons were the first team to lift this new silverware, adding a historic milestone to their legacy after their 3-2 victory over Morocco.
First team to come back from two goals down in a WAFCON final
In Saturday’s final, Nigeria trailed Morocco 2-0 at halftime but staged a dramatic second-half comeback to win 3-2, with goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini.
This marked the first time a team overcame a two-goal deficit in a WAFCON final, showcasing the Super Falcons’ resilience and determination.
