Wike Promises Land Allocation for University of Port Harcourt in Abuja

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has pledged to allocate land in Abuja for the establishment of a liaison office and guest house for the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). This commitment was made during a recent courtesy visit by UNIPORT’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Georgewill, and other university officials to the minister’s office.

Minister Wike, an alumnus of UNIPORT, emphasized the importance of supporting his alma mater and assured the delegation that the necessary land allocation would be expedited. He highlighted his dedication to contributing to the university’s growth and development.

Vice-Chancellor Georgewill expressed gratitude for the minister’s ongoing support, noting that Wike had previously donated a students’ hostel to the university during his tenure as Governor of Rivers State. He also acknowledged the minister’s role in enhancing the institution’s infrastructure and overall academic environment.

The proposed liaison office and guest house in Abuja are expected to strengthen UNIPORT’s presence in the capital, facilitating administrative operations and providing accommodation for university officials and guests. This initiative aligns with the university’s strategic plan to expand its reach and foster stronger connections with governmental and educational bodies within the FCT.

The collaboration between the FCT administration and UNIPORT signifies a continued commitment to advancing higher education in Nigeria, with both parties recognizing the mutual benefits of such partnerships.
