Zaynab Otiti-Obanor needs no introduction. Her name rings a bell in the society. She means different things to different people. Over the years, she has shown to all, through her sayings and deeds, that she has a clear vision of what to do to impact humanity positively. This is more so as she is divinely inspired to touch lives as much as humanly possible.
For a fact, the Edo State-born beauty hates to do her things haphazardly; hence she decided to set up the Queen Zaynab Foundation some years ago. Through the foundation, she has been an angel of hope to many in the society. It is on record that she has assisted several women in rural communities to start small businesses, given scholarships to kids from elementary levels to the university, and rendered free medical care to countless number of people.
Besides, she has also built solar-powered systems to generate clean and safe water for many rural communities across Nigeria. Expectedly, her sustained kind gestures have fetched her honour, recognition and awards within and outside the country.
In August 2017, during the UNGA week, she was awarded the “Humanitarian of the Year” award by ‘Kechies Project,’ an organisation that concentrates on the girl-child education. Also, the City of New Jersey in the United States once lauded her for her contributions to the betterment of Africa, as well as bringing awareness to problems that plague women and children, such as poverty, economic strife and illiteracy.
Her quest for development and peace birthed the ‘Arab African Economic Development Initiative’ (AAEDI) to promote and improve cultural and international relations between Arab countries in the Middle East and Africa.
So far, 34 countries across both continents have become partners of the organisation, pledging their support, along with their relevant ministries in their various governments.
