Promises community-by-community mobilisation
From Idu Jude, Abuja
As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, the leadership of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has vowed to capitalise on the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s perceived governance failures to secure victory in the upcoming polls.
The party’s leadership made this remark on Tuesday, August 19, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, ahead of the 2026 Area Council elections in the FCT.
Highlighting the party’s capacities and capabilities to mobilise across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT, the ZLP Chairman and chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Swani Buba, said the party’s internal cohesion is a key advantage.

“I can tell you that crises in other parties are an added advantage to us because many of them who are already aggrieved with APC and other parties are about to decamp to our dear party. And it is not because we have the money, it is because we are a party with the best party ideology. It is because we have remained united and with the unity of purpose, we shall take advantage of their misgivings and possibly win in all the local governments, states, and the presidential election. So we are waiting for those of them searching for better grounds to give Nigerians good governance,” Buba stated.
He urged party loyalists to obtain their voter cards to make a strong statement during the elections.
The party’s Vice-Chairman candidate for AMAC, Hon. Nonso Okeke, echoed Buba’s sentiments, stating that all FCT area councils deserve transformative leadership to elevate the capital’s status among nations.
“We are not only coming to participate, or to fill the gap, we make bold to say that it is time to change the narrative. Crises being experienced in other parties are as a result of bad leadership, and I corroborate with those who say that individuals at such parties are already on their way to the ZLP. It is obvious that the ruling APC and other parties do not have the ability and the capacity to govern this great nation from the local authorities to the centre. The past two years of the APC have been like living in hell with the high cost of food. People can no longer go to school, there are no affordable hospitals, insecurity with millions of deaths, kidnappings, and an unemployment saga,” Okeke said.
He boasted that the ZLP has secured an early victory with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) publishing the names of all its candidates for the 2026 Area Council elections, describing it as a “first step victory.”
