Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, has attributed the team’s victory over Rwanda in the 2026 World Cup Qualifier match on Saturday to their opponents getting tired.
The Nigerian team managed to scrape a win in Uyo thanks to a goal from Tolu Arokodare, with Chelle expressing happiness with the three points earned.
Speaking in a post-match briefing, the Malian said, “I’m happy about the three points. I’m happy about the way the team played in the first half because we had 70% of the possession, and because of that, Rwanda was tired, and this is why in the second half, they didn’t press us when we scored the goal.
“So now we are happy because we won 1-0. And we can go to South Africa with a lot of ambitions.”
The victory came at a cost for the Super Eagles as star striker Victor Osimhen was injured and limped off the field.
Chello disclosed that Osimhen would undergo a scan to determine the extent of the injury concern.
