• We’ll sack him, boasts Peoples Democratic Party
From Romanus Ugwu and Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja
National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has charged opposition political parties, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to stop wasting their time jostling to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027 election because “there is no vacancy at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.”
Addressing supporters on solidarity protest at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, under the aegis of the APC League of Professionals, yesterday, Yilwatda highlighted the gains so far recorded under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Tinubu-led administration as basis for his assertion.
He promised that APC would ensure victory of its candidates in the elections.
Yilwatda, who described himself as the bridge between the old and the young, cited students’ loan and empowerment programmes undertaken by President Tinubu that impacted positively on the citizenry.
He said: “The child of the poorest man in Nigeria can now go to school to the peak without borrowing from anywhere. The government has made provision for that. This is the only time we have had that in the history of Nigeria. Government has dropped N1.5 billion in the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) to support young men that want to go into agriculture.
“Never before have we had this opportunity. We have a fund given for the youths. Never before has any government done this. And I can tell you that the opportunity for the young people is right under our President. What I can show you first is a thank you for this support, a thank you for standing by our party, and a thank you for believing in this party. “Our manifesto targets people like you. The Renew Hope Agenda targets people like you. And I look forward to working with you to ensure that 2027 will deliver the president, deliver the governors, deliver the senators, House of Assemblies and House of Representatives members,” he said.
The pioneer secretary of the Bayelsa State chapter of the APC, Marlin Daniel, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) over the choice of Yilwatda as the national chairman of the party.
He expressed optimism that Yilwatda would deliver candidates of the party at the poll in view of his experience as a politician and technocrat of several years standing in the polity.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) has boasted that it would sack President Tinubu and the APC administration in 2027.
The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, yesterday, said despite its travails, it has a track record of performance during its days in office, which Nigerians still remember with nostalgia.
The party berated spokesman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, for what it described as “unprovoked attack” on it.
Abdullahi, in a recent television programme, had reportedly stated that the jugular of PDP is still in the hands of the ruling APC. The major opposition party said the “unwarranted” attack, rather than addressing pressing national issues, was reckless as well as revealing.
The PDP stated that “it is rather unfortunate that the APC-indoctrinated Abdullahi is apparently unhappy that the PDP is building momentum against the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, hence this resort to attacking the PDP instead of confronting the APC.
“In any case, the PDP, as the leading opposition party, commanding the respect, loyalty and solidarity of overwhelming majority of Nigerians across the country, and which is also the broad-based platform driving the aspiration of Nigerians to oust the APC in 2027, will not descend to join issues with the ADC or any other opposition party in the country for that matter.
“Instead, the PDP, with its track record of performance which Nigerians still recall with nostalgia, will continue to vigorously challenge the failed APC on issues while shaping constructive national discourse and galvanising Nigerians towards voting out the APC and installing a people-oriented government on the platform of our party, come 2027.”
Furthermore, the opposition party noted that “despite the defections of some of our members, it is clear that Nigerians, who are the real organic strength of the PDP, are still standing shoulder to shoulder with our party. The PDP, therefore, remains the party that has the support base, connections, national spread and political muscle to unseat the APC.
“Moreover, it is instructive to state that the PDP, as presently constituted, has more than enough presidential personalities with clear records of achievement and capacity to defeat President Bola Tinubu at any time. However, as the platform of choice for all Nigerians, the PDP remains open to working with other well-meaning and like-minded citizens and groups in the collective aspiration to rescue our nation from the APC.”
