…As military beef up security around his house

From Noah Ebije, Kaduna

Security was yesterday evening beefed up at the Sultan lane Kaduna residence of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Journalists and some mourners were barred from entering the house by security men guarding the house, saying they were yet to be officially communicated about the General’s death and the need for people to visit the house

None of his neighbours was ready to speak about his death with the place looking desolate and quiet at the time of filing this report.

Daily Sun gathered that Buhari’s family members are not living in the Kaduna residence. Only the combined security operatives of police and military men were seen taking care of the residence.

However, some Northern groups, including Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Arewa Think Tank (ATT), Northern CAN, others have mourned Buhari.

ACF in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary said, “It is with great sadness that the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) received news of the death of General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.), the immediate past President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and, until this event, one of four surviving former Nigerian Heads of States.

“General Buhari had led a life full of momentous activities, not surprising for a personality who had twice served as chief Executive of Nigeria, first as Military Head of State (1983 – 1985), then as twice democratically elected President (2015 – 2023), as well as Military Governor of the defunct Northeastern State (now Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states) (1975 – 1979), and (Federal) Minister of Petroleum Resources.

“Additionally, he had also served command posts in the military and actively fought in the 1967-1970 Civil War which ended in the unification of Nigeria, among his numerous other national outings. The late retired General was therefore a recurring decimal in policy and governance circles in Nigeria for nearly the past 60 years.

“Perhaps as should be expected, late General Buhari’s services to Nigeria could not have failed to elicit mixed reactions and evaluations, from friends and foes alike. Those different times he had served incorporated momentous and often controversial episodes in checkered Nigeria’s history. It is to be expected that some of the controversies and other memories as his legacies will linger and be subjected to analyses.

“However there is no Nigerian alive today that enjoyed the love and loyalty of the Nigerian downtrodden especially in the North like the late President Muhammadu Buhari.ACF mourns Gen. Buhari and prays for the peaceful repose of his soul in Aljanna Firdaus. ACF equally extends condolences to his family and friends, the people and Government of the Federation, Katsina State and beyond”.

The Convener of Arewa Think Tank (ATT), Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu said, “The death of Former President Muhammadu Buhari is Shattering, Devastating and Shocking, we pray that Almighty Allah Grant him Jannatu Firdausi, it’s also a lesson for our present crops of leaders that a day like this await all of us and that they should lead with the fear of God”.

According to the Secretary General of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Elder Sunday Oibe, “The news of the demise of the former president Mohamed buhari came as a rude shock but with its attendant lesson. While consoling and praying for the immediate family to bear the sudden demise of the General, we call on the politicians to reflect seriously on their despirations for power not minding what the future holds. Those clamouring for 2027 and are heating up the polity should take deep breaths and ask themselves if anyone knows if he or she will live to see the 2027 they are jumping on each other’s head about. Our condolences go to the nation for losing one of her former leaders. May the living begin to ask themselves what would they be remembered for at the end of their journey here on earth.?

Former President Buhari may be no more because no one can fill the void he has left behind. But in a way he is very much around, since he needs no tombstone to remind us of his legacy”.
