The President of the Indigenous Igbo Youth Congress (IIYC), Chief Major Echefu, has described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, as the “best political development” to happen to Nigeria in this dispensation.
He, however, warned that if the coalition desires to form the next government, the only option available to it is to field Peter Obi, as the presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
“If ADC doesn’t choose the former Labour Party presidential candidate as its flag bearer, then, it has given the All Progressives Congress (APC) the opportunity to continue beyond 2027, and Nigerians won’t forgive the promoters of the coalition for prolonging their sufferings,” Echefu said.
The Igbo youth leader appealed to former Vice President Abubakar Atiku to drop his presidential ambition and support Peter Obi to emerge the candidate of ADC. By so doing, he would etch his name in the hearts of Nigerians, and would be seen as a great statesman, who sacrificed his ambition for Nigeria to regain its lost glory.
The Igbo race, Echefu said, cannot in this time play a second fiddle in ADC, and urged the protem leadership of the party, to rise up and tell Atiku the truth that Nigerians would not accept him the way they would welcome Obi’s candidature.
“In 2023, Obi from nowhere became a household name in Nigeria defying all political permutations. If the ADC wants to defeat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, it doesn’t have any option than to field him,” Echefu said.
The Igbo youth leader came hard on the Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, over statement credited to him. Soludo, while addressing Anambra people in the US, exonerated the Fulani herdsmen of kidnapping, killings and other criminal activities in the state.
He said the governor was wrong, noting that the herdsmen attacked one of his boys and inflicted him with multiple injuries as he managed to escape their abduction. He wondered the interest the governor is protecting.
