From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri
Ifeanyichukwu Nnanna is a physically challenged artisan from Umualum Nekede in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State. He has refused to allow his physical disability determine his destiny. So, despite being confined to the wheelchair having suffered Polio meningitis, he still engages in repair of faulty electrical and electronic appliances since his teenage years.
Nnanna, now in his late 50s is well known to people in the area especially students of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede. Interestingly, he also has an aged mother to fend for with his little proceeds.
However, fortune smiled on Nnanna recently, and his life received a turnaround when he was discovered by the Amaroy Foundation. His major challenge of not being able to afford a power generator to complement the epileptic power supply in the area was immediately tackled. He received a new power generator from the foundation and an undisclosed cash to support his business: “This support means the world to me; it will not only help me in my work but also help me take care of my aged mother. This gesture has demonstrated to me that with determination and the right support, anything is possible. I hope to inspire others to overcome their challenges as well.”
Amaroy Foundation believes that everyone deserves a chance to succeed, regardless of their physical limitations. Through initiatives like this, the foundation aims to foster an environment where every individual can thrive and contribute to their communities.
Its founder, Dr. Roy Nwakamma, who was represented by the State Coordinator, Destiny Akunesi said the group was not just providing immediate help to Nnanna but also empowering him to grow his business and become a beacon of hope.
The Foundation also gave succour to three women who underwent caesarean deliveries at New Creation Hospital, Orji, in Owerri North LGA, Imo State, by settling their hospital bills. By this, Amaroy Foundation did not only ease financial burdens but ensured that these mothers and their newborns began life’s journey with dignity and peace of mind.
Daily Sun gathered that Amaroy also paid National Examination Council (NECO) examination registration fee for an indigent student of Mbaise Secondary School, Abraham Gideon. Its action ensured that financial constraints did not obstruct his academic aspirations. Gideon’s bed-ridden father also received a cash support.
The foundation’s compassion was further extended to two indigent petty traders, Mr Chibuike Njoku from Nkwogwu, Mbaise and Mrs. Egonna Nwogbo from Ihitte Mbaise who were sponsored to start their own mini supermarket.
Aside providing each of the beneficiaries with a deep freezer, rent for the shop, new generator, and stabilizer to boost their businesses, they also received goods worth over a million naira.
Akunesi further disclosed that the project recently focused on three individuals from Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State whom they equipped to start their own poultry farms, marking a significant step towards economic independence and food security in the area: “The foundation provided comprehensive support to the selected entrepreneurs, which included the construction of poultry houses designed to accommodate their birds effectively.
“Each entrepreneur received 200 birds, enabling them to kickstart their businesses with a strong foundation. We also supplied them essential feeds, veterinary drugs, and backed it with training to ensure the success and health of the poultry.”
One of the beneficiaries, George Eneremadu said the initiative has changed his life: “I now have the resources and knowledge to start my own business and provide for my family.”
