The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Anambra South senatorial by-election scheduled for August 16, Chief Emma Nwachukwu, has promised to prioritise industrial transformation to boost commercial activities in the area.
Addressing members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) during their August Congress at the Godwin Ezeemo NUJ International Press Centre, Awka, Chief Nwachukwu said he would use his position, if elected, to protect the business community by promoting industrial and commercial ventures.
These, he said, will complement Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s transformational leadership in the Anambra South Senatorial District.

Expressing commitment to giving his constituents quality representation, Chief Nwachukwu, an accountant, also promised to champion youth empowerment by using his senatorial seat to secure opportunities at federal ministries and other avenues to empower his constituents who are not in the business sector.
Giving a brief account of his stewardship as former President General of Ukpor community in Nnewi South LGA, Chief Nwachukwu recalled the “Community Choose Your Project” initiative of the then administration, during which he rebuilt and modernised Afor Ukpor, with extra funds sourced independently, as well as Nkwo Oha, near Afor Ukpor.
He assured his constituents of regular interaction with community leaders in the zone.
On women and children, the APGA candidate said that, just as Soludo and APGA are gender-sensitive, he would also ensure that women are given rightful positions through bills he will sponsor to ensure self-development.
On security, he said he will help to make laws that will enable governors to be the true chief security officers of their states, stating that it would help address the challenge.
On his emergence as APGA candidate, Chief Nwachukwu said he won fairly and freely in a duly supervised process by Governor Soludo and disclosed that his co-contestants in the party are today working together with him to ensure victory.
“I am glad to inform you that Chief Ebuka Onukwo is coordinating our campaign at Ekwusigo LGA, Rt Hon Pascal Agbodike is coordinating Ihiala, Chief Akai is in charge of Nnewi South, Chief Patrick Ubajiaka (Ike Nnewi) is coordinating Nnewi North LGA; you will agree with me that there is no room for such unfounded falsehood that we are quarrelling, we are family,” he stated.
