Former Governor of Gombe State and serving Senator representing Gombe North, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to focus on rebuilding the party rather than jostling for political offices ahead of 2027.

Speaking at the PDP Expanded Stakeholders’ Meeting held Sunday in Gombe, Dankwambo said the party is in a rebuilding mood and must be fully repositioned before any ambition is declared. “We are not talking about contest now. All we are after is to rebuild our party and position it for victory. All those wishing to contest should wait. Let’s build the party first,” he cautioned.

He reaffirmed PDP’s commitment to internal democracy, noting that it remains the only party to have conducted congresses from ward to zonal levels and is currently preparing for a national convention. He said, “PDP remains the only party that have held it’s Congress from the ward level, to the local government to the state and zonal level and currently working on the national convention”.

Also speaking, at the meeting, the member representing Billiri/Balanga federal constituency in the house representatives, Ali Isa JC disclosed that the party had resolved its internal crises and fixed a national convention to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State. He revealed that the party’s leadership has engaged lawyers to challenge defectors who won elections on the PDP platform but later decamped. “We will reclaim those stolen mandates,” he vowed.

From Gombe North, PDP Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, called for inclusivity, urging leaders to carry all members along and support local communities. Representing Gombe South, former federal lawmaker Yusuf Manu-Swa thanked Dankwambo for rallying the party and urged him to contest for president in 2027. He also appealed to the PDP to zone the next governorship ticket to Gombe South.

In his remarks, Danazumi Adamu Pindiga, speaking for Gombe Central, lamented the absence of PDP representation in both state and national assemblies from parts of his zone. While calling on party leaders to sanction saboteurs, he equally urged to ensure fair access to empowerment initiatives.
