Council of Otunbas mourns late Awujale, pays tribute to legacy

The Council of Otunbas of Ijebu-land has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, Ogbagba II, the revered Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu-land, who died on Sunday.

In an official statement, Chairman of the Council, Otunba Busura Alebiosu, described the late monarch as a towering figure of royalty, dignity, and wisdom, whose reign transformed the traditional institution in Nigeria.

“The Awujale was not just a king to the Ijebus; he was the soul of a people, the custodian of our heritage, and a global icon of integrity,.
“His long and impactful reign, marked by fearlessness, intellect, and modernization, will remain an inspiration to generations unborn,”Alebiosu said.

Otunba Alebiosu extended condolences to Ijebu sons and daughters at home and abroad, acknowledging the immense vacuum left by the monarch’s demise.

He urged all Ijebu people to uphold the values championed by Oba Adetona, including service, truth, and patriotism.

The Council also mourned the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, whose passing was announced recently. Alebiosu extended condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, describing Buhari as a statesman who made notable contributions to Nigeria’s democracy, national security, and infrastructure.

“President Buhari’s death is a great loss to the nation and to all lovers of peace and progress,” he said, while praying for wisdom and strength for President Tinubu during what he called “a double moment of national grief.”

Otunba Alebiosu called for unity, resilience, and reflection among Nigerians and the Ijebu people, emphasizing the importance of drawing strength from the legacies of the departed leaders.

“As a people, we must march forward with the courage they exemplified,” he concluded.
