Ebonyi University Suspends Former Security Adviser Over Alleged Cultism

Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ebonyi State has indefinitely suspended Felix Okemini, a former Senior Special Assistant on Security to Governor Francis Nwifuru, due to allegations of involvement in cult-related activities during the university’s matriculation ceremony on March 14, 2025.

Okemini, who had recently enrolled as a political science student, was reportedly seen displaying behavior associated with cultism during the event. In response, the university issued a suspension letter on March 20, stating that he is suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of an investigation by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

Prior to this incident, Okemini had been dismissed from his governmental role by Governor Nwifuru for gross misconduct.

This development has sparked discussions about the influence of cultism within academic institutions and the importance of upholding ethical standards among both students and public officials.
