The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, has described as inadequate the amount budgeted yearly to the state’s health sector.

While noting that provision of accessible and quality health care remains the responsibility of any government, Oluyede said he will generate N72 billion annually from the health sector if elected the governor in the coming election.

Oluyede who lamented the hardship in the land, also assured that he would put in place policies and programmes to drive growth, development, create wealth and ensure economic prosperity in the state.

Oluyede made the remarks during an interview in one of the radio stations in Ado-Ekiti, on Wednesday, where he expressed strongly that he relies only on God the Father, and not any political godfather.

The candidate who decried the security challenges in the state and its negative impacts on the economy, said his government would tackle the menace decisively and ensure a thriving and friendly economy that will attract investors to the state.

Oluyede said, “Ekiti can generate N72 billion from the health sector, but I will not disclose how for now because I don’t want others to copy the idea.”

Responding to who his political godfather is, Oluyede said,
“I have God the Father and not a godfather. That is why you see Ekiti people standing by me, as reflected in the restoration rally held in Ikere-Ekiti, my hometown, on Tuesday.”

Oluyede who regretted that Ekiti South Senatorial District, the zone he comes from, has not produced a governor since the inception of democratic government in 1999, said the Central and North Senatorial Districts have held the position since 1999.

Oluyede who asked where is the true place of equity and fairness in the state’s political leadership?, declared that the marginalisation of the South must end, maintaining it is the turn of the zone to produce the governor and he is prepared to break the jinx.

” At the restoration rally, the people of Ikere made it clear that they are tired of producing deputy governors. What they want now is the position of governor, which they believe they have found in me.

” Otunba Niyi Adebayo is from the Central, Kayode Fayemi is from the North, Ayodele Fayose is also from the Central, Chief Segun Oni is from the North and Biodun Oyebanji is from the Central. Is that fair to the South? Why should we allow someone who has failed to repeat the class? It ought to be the turn of the South after all these years.”

Oluyede who explained that though he was formerly a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) said, he does not regret his membership with the PDP, adding that his experiences in the different political parties have broadened his support base beyond the PDP.

” I contested the governorship primary against Kayode Fayemi but left due to lack of internal democracy.

“About two years ago, some people approached me and urged me to join the PDP. I considered their plea because of the quality of people there and eventually joined the party,” he said.

He described the restoration rally in Ikere-Ekiti as an energiser that has further strengthened confidence in the PDP as a viable platform for victory in the June 20 election.

“PDP is now everywhere in Ekiti, as demonstrated by the restoration rally in Ikere. Politics is local, and we are well- grounded in the state.

“Though, I am an Australia-based medical doctor, and has practiced medicine in five different countries for over 40 years, I am very present in Ekiti—I spend an average of two weeks every month in Ekiti and I know and have been involved in the politics of the state.”

He also assured that he would prioritiise quality education that would be accessible, available, and of global standard, with emphasis on Science , Engineering and Mathematics, while teachers would be properly trained and motivated for efficiency.

He hinted that he would ensure food security through massive agricultural interventions and initiate policies that would focus on human capital development, address Industrial and infrastructure deficits, develop robust technological innovations, among other initiatives that will impact every other sector in the state.

He also promised improved welfare for civil servants and pensioners, including the payment of pensions and gratuities.

Oluyede further assured that Ekiti would achieve independent electricity generation through an Independent Power Plant, ensuring stable power supply without reliance on the national grid.

The candidate who restated that he will run issue-based campaigns, urged the people to massively vote for him in the June poll, assuring that he will fulfill his campaign promises to the people if he wins the election.
