Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Enugu State have intensified their crackdown on criminal activities, raiding a suspected hideout in the New Artisan area of Enugu, arresting a suspect, and dismantling drug hubs.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the operation was carried out around midnight on April 5, 2026, by operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, following actionable intelligence.
According to the Command, the raid led to the arrest of a 29-year-old suspect identified as Francisco Olugba. Items recovered from him included “quantities of suspected Cannabis Sativa, bags containing clothes reasonably suspected to have been stolen from victims, eleven SIM cards of various network providers, a pair of scissors, and other exhibits.”
Police authorities said the operation extended beyond the arrest, targeting structures believed to serve as centres for drug peddling and consumption.
“The operatives also dismantled drug peddling and consumption hubs, disrupting related criminal activities in the area and destroying makeshift structures (‘bunks’) used for such purposes. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network and uncover the full extent of their operations,” the Command stated.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain pressure on criminal elements through proactive policing.
He said: “The Command remains committed to sustaining proactive policing strategies aimed at combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of all residents. We will not relent in identifying, raiding, and dismantling criminal networks operating within the state.”
Giwa also called on residents to support ongoing efforts by remaining vigilant and cooperating with security agencies.
“We urge citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report suspicious persons and activities to the Police. Public cooperation remains vital in our collective effort to rid the state of crime,” he added.
The police spokesperson confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to track down other suspects linked to the network.
