Both suspects were picked up by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad on 11 and 12 August 2025.
The little boy had first been reported missing on 26 July. Investigations later revealed that the teenager used his accomplice to demand a ransom of N1 million from the child’s father in a bid to cover his tracks.
“When the ransom was not paid, the suspect murdered the child and buried him in a bush near their home in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi LGA,” police spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe said in a statement.
The suspects confessed during interrogation and led police to the shallow grave, where the child’s body was recovered. Medical personnel at the scene confirmed him dead.
Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, described the incident as heartbreaking. He commiserated with the grieving family and assured that the suspects would face justice.
“The Command will not relent in uncovering heinous crimes and ensuring justice for victims,” he said.
