Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has dismissed criticisms of his administration, insisting that his government has recorded visible achievements across the state.
Speaking on Thursday while receiving Jerry Joseph Damara and former Deputy Governor Tha’anda Rubainu, who both defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Yahaya stated that opposition voices cannot deny the progress made under his leadership.

The PDP and other opposition parties, as well as individuals, had accused Governor Yahaya’s administration of failing to deliver on campaign promises, claiming his leadership and policies had only crippled and worsened the economic conditions of residents in the state.
According to the PDP in a recent statement, the governor’s failure has strengthened the opposition’s chances ahead of the 2027 elections. However, reacting to the development, Governor Yahaya dismissed the claims, declaring that his government has performed creditably.
He said, “We can beat our chest today and say we have done well. A total decay of a very long time cannot be corrected overnight. For a real capital project to see the light of day, you need three, four, or five years, from planning to execution. We are in for a long ride, but with determination and God’s guidance, we will reach the destination”.
He pointed to major interventions in roads construction, health and education, citing the rehabilitation of the Kaltungo General Hospital, upgrades of primary health centres in all 40 wards in Gombe South and other parts of the state, and the construction of classrooms across the state as proof of progress.
“Nobody can say nothing has been done. We may not have done everything, but we never claimed we would. What matters is that we are proactive and reactive, planning, and pushing the state forward,” he stated as he emphasized that his administration inherited years of rot but has laid a foundation for sustainable development.
“I am proud to say this government has done very well, and I am ready to defend myself anywhere,” the governor added, He noted the defection of Damara and Rubainu, as well as other prominent politicians from Gombe South as a validation of his APC-led government’s performance and a blow to the PDP’s claim of resurgence.
